FINAL PROJECT! : Magazine

Finally, this is the Final Project for my class for DDC subject :)
The project sounds fun but challenging at the same time, because we have to make something that is really new for us, and need time and patience. We have to make a: MAGAZINE :D
Our class decided to choose one theme for the magazine, so it`ll unite together, since our lecturers said that the main problem of a magazine that made by some people is that there`s no unity. We decided to make a gadget magz, titled : Study-O, inspired by our second home as an architect, Studio, the place where ideas and thoughts come, and so on :)
The target market of this magz is University Students, so this magz is simply a fun-gadget magz that would be interesting enough for University students to read it. We divided our class to some groups with our own responsibilities for the magz,so we were kind of become a professional magazine maker at that time :P
And also, we have to make at least 5 pages article for the magazine.
Me, i make an article about the must have gadgets for University students, so first, i do the research from many University students, and then make the top 10 of them, and the other 2.
The hardest part of making it was do the research, and calculate them all, but it was fun :D
And here`s my work for the magazine :)

the girl in the photo is my friend from Mechanical Engineering :) i took this photo with my Canon DSLR Camera type EOS60D. Location: Engineering Center Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia

Operating Auto CAD

AutoCAD is a CAD (Computer Aided Design or Computer Aided Drafting) software application for 2D and 3D design and draft. Well, that`s a short information i got from wikipedia about AutoCAD. This software is one of the important software for Architect, to make a models in 2D or 3D.
As a start for learn how to operate AutoCAD, my DDC lecturers gave us an assignment to make a table (any kind of table) with AutoCAD. I decided to make a table with single leg, that usually placed in terrace, the very simple one.

But i plan to try to make another type of table with using AutiCAD, hopefully i can do it fast, since my laptop is broken and i need to wait until it`s fixed. I`ll try to make a table with four legs or another type like this :

And this is my work on making the table with AutoCAD :)

3 Minutes Movie about Engineering Center University of Indonesia Building

There are so many ways to introduce something to public. For example, how to introduce a building to public in an interesting way. Related to that issue, our next assignment is to make a 3 minutes movie about a building, any kind of building, but we have only 3 minutes. As a good architect, we should know how to introduce a building or anything else, so that it`ll be interesting and people would like to know more about us and our works.

This assignment is a group assignment, me, and my 2 other partners, Aurie and Yudithia, decided to make a movie about a modern building that also really close to our daily life as a University`s students in University of Indonesia. We made a movie about Engineering Center, which is located in Engineering Faculty in University of Indonesia.

This movie starts with our introduction of 3 of us, and then continue with the photos we`ve taken of the buildings and some information of it. We also put an interesting song on purpose to make the viewer get more interest to watch and know more about it.

Playing around with: Google Sketchup ! (Making a Rectorate UI Building)

As an architecture students, being able to operate some software that related to our job as an Architect in the future, is a must. One of the most important software for Architect is Google Skethcup or Skecthup. SketchUp is a 3D modeling program designed for architectural, civil, and mechanical engineers as well as filmmakers, game developers, and related professions. It also includes features to facilitate the placement of models in Google Earth. It is designed to be easier to use than other 3D CAD programs.
Many different 3D and 2D exporters are available in SketchUp for uses such as rendering. This model was made in SketchUp and rendered in Kerkythea.
On April 27, 2006, Google announced Google SketchUp, a freely-downloadable version of SketchUp. The free version is not as capable as SketchUp Pro, but it includes integrated tools for uploading content to Google Earth and to the Google 3D Warehouse, a repository of models created in SketchUp. They have also added a new toolbox where you can walk, see things from a person's point of view, labels for models, a look around tool, and an "any polygon" shape tool.
My lecturer gave me an assignment to make The Rectorate building in University of Indonesia with Sketchup. At first, it was so hard to operate this software, but then i started to get use to it, and these are some photos of my work on Skecthup (it was my very first time using sketchup, so i wanna say sorry for the weird shape of the building hehe) Enjoy it :)

 * In some perspective, the building looks white, but actually i`ve colored the whole building with the (almost) same color with the real Rectorate Building in UI. This is my first time using this software, and i`m enjoying it, but still need more practice to make the better one :)

Photos Series

After our first Photography`s assignment, in the next meeting, the lecturer gave us another assignment, which is a bit harder i think. Because, besides we need to take pictures, we also have to makes story from it. So, we need to control the time or the movement or anything we need, to make them look like a story. How the story is about or going to be, up to us. Considering the lack of the time i had, and the difficulties i was about to face with this assignment, i decided to make the story of someone that is so close to me and could easily took her time for me, and the decision come to my housemaid. I made a story about my housemaid`s life. I want to show her daily activities every day, and make a story from it. And here`s the story of my photo series, Enjoy it! :)

Chacha`s Life as a Housemaid
Once upon a time, lived a girl named Chacha. In Spanish, “Chacha” means a female servant or a maid. Accidentally, her name represents her job in her real life, which was a maid. Chacha is a 17 years old girl, came from Bali. She has a beautiful face with her exotic skin color and her slim body. She never thought that in her future she will become a maid, but she live her life as a maid with joy and never complain on things. She worked for a family in Jakarta, so she has to live far away from her family. But she always tries to enjoy everyday of her life and do her best for her work.
Everyday, she start her day, woke up in a very morning, and get ready to do the things that a maid used to do. But before she start her day with anything, she always first pray to god for everything and always hoping for god`s help to face everything in her life. After that, she starts her work by sweep the floor for the whole house. She does it everyday. Her boss’ house is not a type of small house, so to do this, it is not an easy job, but she never complain, and do her job well. After sweep the floor, it is the time to moping it. And the next work waiting is, tidy up all rooms that exist at this house. After her tidy up the whole thing, from the bedrooms, living room, dining room, terraces, and all rooms, she got to wash up all dirty clothes. Her boss has taught her how to use the washing machine, so it wasn`t a hard thing for her. Next after that, she has to put all of the clothes in the drying ground. Sometimes, while doing her job, when she felt tired, she usually get some rest and relax looking at the blue beautiful sky.
After she finishes her job to put all the clothes to the drying ground, it is time for lunch already. She turns on the TV, choose the best channel that she likes, get some food to eat, and having the lunch while watching the TV. This moment must be her best moment of the day since she can really get relax at that time after a hectic day.
After having the lunch, chacha has to go back to work and do the whole things. She has to starts taking all the dried up clothes. After that she has to iron them all, and put it all to the closet.  After she finishes with the household things, now is the time for her to go the background at the afternoon, and sweep the dead leaves there. She really likes doing this job, sweep the background, because she likes being outside and see the nature. Sometimes she also play with the family`s pet, it is a rabbit, a cute little brown rabbit. She loves animal so she likes to play around with it in the background.
When the entire job has finished, she could take a walk at the afternoon, making new friends with the neighbors and enjoying outside situation with some fresh air. She really enjoy this moment. In fact, she really enjoy every second of her life spent at this house, because she loves her job as a housemaid.

It was a very silly story, wasn't it? hehe, I hope at least the reader can enjoy it. And here are some photos i`ve taken from her daily life as a housemaid, i tried to use the principle of taking pictures when i was doing it, and since she was a bit busy and I also was very busy, we finally get the time to do all these stuff at the afternoon which is not a very ideal time for taking pictures, but i did my best, so hopefully you all like it :)
Hello, my name is Chacha :)

Everyday I woke up in the morning and get ready to face my day with smile :D
Before I start anything, pray to God first, hopefully it will be another fun and great day for me :)
Sweep the floor :)
And then swab it, so it`ll all clean!
Clean up the bedrooms

Time to wash the clothes! ^^
And then dry it
It is tiring, try to enjoy the view while i`m working :)
Time to eat! yeay
Having the lunch while i`m watching TV, how relaxing :)
ironing the clothes is so tiring! uff..
Playing around with the rabbit :D
Spending my time at the garden
jogging and making friends at the afternoon is my favorite part of the day ^^
This is my life as a Housemaid, so Fun! :D

Photography

When we had our first meeting in the DDC class, my lecturer told us that there some rules for this class, and one of them is that we need to have SLR Camera. I was wondering, what are we going to do with the Camera? Since there`s a Photography class we can take for the second semester, I thought there will be no photography`s lesson in this class. But I was wrong, one day my lecturer told us to take 3 pictures with our camera, and he`ll grade our photos, so who took the best pictures would get the highest score. And he also told us to find out about the principles of using camera, so that we can take good photos. And I was like; this is going to be so much fun! So, before I took the pictures, I tried to know more about Photography. And here`s some information that I got.
What is Photography?
Photography is the process, activity and arts of creating still or moving pictures by recording radiation on a radiation-sensitive medium, such as a photographic film, or electronic image sensors. Photography uses foremost radiation in the UV, visible and near-IR spectrum. For common purposes the term light is used instead of radiation. Light reflected or emitted from objects form a real image on a light sensitive area (film or plate) or a FPA pixel array sensor by means of a pin hole or lens in a device known as a camera during a timed exposure. The result on film or plate is a latent image, subsequently developed into a visual image (negative or dispositive). An image on paper base is known as a print. The result on the FPA pixel array sensor is an electrical charge at each pixel which is electronically processed and stored in a computer (raster)-image file for subsequent display or processing. Photography has many uses for business, science, manufacturing (Photolithography), art, and recreational purposes.
The History of “Photography”
As far as can be ascertained, it was Sir John Herschel in a lecture before the Royal Society of London, on March 14, 1839 who made the word "photography" known to the whole world. But in an article published on February 25 of the same year in a german newspaper called the Vossische Zeitung, Johann von Maedler, a Berlin astronomer, used the word photography already. The word photography is based on the Greek φς (photos) "light" and γραφή (graphé) "representation by means of lines" or "drawing", together meaning "drawing with light".
Something that you should know about Photography and the Camera Controls
Here are the controls that exist in the camera, that we should know before we could playing around with our camera, cause these are the basic info that really important;

Control
Description
The adjustment to place the sharpest focus where it is desired on the subject.
Adjustment of the lens opening, measured as f-number, which controls the amount of light passing through the lens. Aperture also has an effect on depth of field and diffraction – the higher the f-number, the smaller the opening, the less light, the greater the depth of field, and the more the diffraction blur. The focal length divided by the f-number gives the effective aperture diameter.
Adjustment of the speed (often expressed either as fractions of seconds or as an angle, with mechanical shutters) of the shutter to control the amount of time during which the imaging medium is exposed to light for each exposure. Shutter speed may be used to control the amount of light striking the image plane; 'faster' shutter speeds (that is, those of shorter duration) decrease both the amount of light and the amount of image blurring from motion of the subject and/or camera.
On digital cameras, electronic compensation for the color temperature associated with a given set of lighting conditions, ensuring that white light is registered as such on the imaging chip and therefore that the colors in the frame will appear natural. On mechanical, film-based cameras, this function is served by the operator's choice of film stock or with color correction filters. In addition to using white balance to register natural coloration of the image, photographers may employ white balance to aesthetic end, for example white balancing to a blue object in order to obtain a warm color temperature.
Metering
Measurement of exposure so that highlights and shadows are exposed according to the photographer's wishes. Many modern cameras meter and set exposure automatically. Before automatic exposure, correct exposure was accomplished with the use of a separate light metering device or by the photographer's knowledge and experience of gauging correct settings. To translate the amount of light into a usable aperture and shutter speed, the meter needs to adjust for the sensitivity of the film or sensor to light. This is done by setting the "film speed" or ISO sensitivity into the meter.
Traditionally used to "tell the camera" the film speed of the selected film on film cameras, ISO speeds are employed on modern digital cameras as an indication of the system's gain from light to numerical output and to control the automatic exposure system. The higher the ISO number the greater the film sensitivity to light, whereas with a lower ISO number, the film is less sensitive to light. A correct combination of ISO speed, aperture, and shutter speed leads to an image that is neither too dark nor too light, hence it is 'correctly exposed,' indicated by a centered meter.
Autofocus point
On some cameras, the selection of a point in the imaging frame upon which the auto-focus system will attempt to focus. Many Single-lens reflex cameras (SLR) feature multiple auto-focus points in the viewfinder.
Many other elements of the imaging device itself may have a pronounced effect on the quality and/or aesthetic effect of a given photograph; among them are:
  • Focal length and type of lens (telephoto or "long" lens, macro, wide angle, fisheye, or zoom)
  • Filters placed between the subject and the light recording material, either in front of or behind the lens
  • Inherent sensitivity of the medium to light intensity and color/wavelengths.
  • The nature of the light recording material, for example its resolution as measured in pixels or grains of silver halide.
Other image forming techniques
Besides the camera, other methods of forming images with light are available. For instance, a photocopy or xerography machine forms permanent images but uses the transfer of static electrical charges rather than photographic film, hence the term electrophotography. Photograms are images produced by the shadows of objects cast on the photographic paper, without the use of a camera. Objects can also be placed directly on the glass of an image scanner to produce digital pictures.

Before we go further about the techniques and principles of using camera, i got a problem on choosing the camera that i wanted to buy, so, i tried to find out some information that can give me suggestions on choosing the camera that i`m going to use.

Factors to Consider when Choosing a Digital SLR Camera

  • Lens Compatibility
  • System expandability, and last but not least
  • The Price

After i read the whole article and hear some other suggestions, i decided to choose Canon EOS 60D DSLR.

Basic Rules for a good Photography

These are some basic rules we should know before using Camera SLR:
  • Rule of Thirds
The rule of thirds states that the frame can be divided into three horizontal and three vertical sections. Photographs work better when the area of interest is placed off-center.
  • Simplicity
You should keep your photo relatively simple. If you’re zoomed in close to your main subject, make sure that the background is out of focus or make sure that nothing in the background stands out, causing any distractions. You don’t want anything pulling your eye away from your main subject.
  • Leading Lines
The “leading line” draws your eye deeper into the photograph, and commonly to the main subject. The leading lines also direct your eye to an area of the photo that might not have been noticed otherwise. You have to be careful using leading lines. You don’t want them to distract the viewer or lead them away from the main subject.
  • Straight Horizon
  • Framing
“Framing” natural surroundings thoughtfully can add more meaning and focus to your subject.
  • Perspective
  • Color
Color in a photograph can create emotion and mood.
  • Symmetry
Sometimes you just have to forget about the rule of thirds, and just plop your focus dead center, just because it works.

After i read them all, after i got all information about photography and stuff, i started to play around with my SLR Camera, and these are some of the photos that i`ve taken by the SLR Camera:
i took this photo on my way to bandung, it`s the railroad for bandung-jakarta`s trains  (i didnt use the SLR camera for this one, i used my usual digi-cam)

one of my fave cafe at Bandung, Congo

i called this one, the gate of love :P

a very nice view i got at one of the famous University in Bandung

*so sorry for the bad quality, it`s because i need to compress it before i post it :)

Color-Image-Composition

COLOR
ž  Color  is the visual perceptual property corresponding in humans to the categories called red, green, blue and others.
ž  Ideas can be communicated through color without the use of either written or verbal language, and emotional response to individual colors alone or in combinations often predictable.
ž  Colors evoke specific emotional responses. For example, red can be powerful, exciting, passionate, and daring. To develop an accurate response to the language of color, it is first necessary to understand the harmony of the color, which means knowing what colors to use and in what order and proportion to create a desire mood, to communicate an idea.

How to use color
Working with color to achieve intended results can be a challenge, but it can also be fun! Before learning what colors to use in order to achieve the best results, one must first understand some basic color terms. Each primary, secondary, and tertiary color is at level of full saturation, or brightness, which means that there is no black, white, or gray added. Color is described in terms of value, which is the lightness or darkness of a color, or the relative amount of white or black in a color.
Primary, secondary, and tertiary

The process
ž  STEP 1:
Clearly define the results you want to achieve with color.
ž  STEP 2
Select a main color that reflects the needs of the project.
ž  STEP 3
Select a color scheme based on the choice of the central hue.
ž  STEP4
Refine the available color choices in terms of the particular project or individual sensibility.

Aspects of color
ž  The aspects, or qualities of color, refer to colors and color combinations that evoke certain emotional responses. Light and dark is the basic distinction. Without sunlight or artificial light, there is no color. The following aspects of color contain color combinations that exist in harmony with each other.

COMPOSITION
ž  In the visual arts — in particular painting, graphic design, photography and sculpture — composition is the placement or arrangement of visual elements or ingredients in a work of art, as distinct from the subject of a work. It can also be thought of as the organization of the elements of art according to the principles of art.
ž  The term composition means 'putting together,' and can apply to any work of art, from music to writing, that is arranged or put together using conscious thought.
ž  In graphic design and desktop publishing, composition is commonly referred to as page layout.

How to make a composition design
ž  Set the character
ž  Set the pattern
ž  Decide the form type
ž  Control the repetition
ž  Set a good layout
ž  Set the direction
ž  Set the size
ž  Set the color

How to make an aesthetic composition design
ž  Composition is the comparison of one part to another
ž  Design is an action with the aim to explain something, and
ž  Aesthetic means the values of the characteristic and sense.
ž  So, how to make an aesthetic composition design, is we have to know how to control the comparison of a design, to reach the beauty of characteristic.

IMAGE
ž  Image in design usually has a function to make a more clear picture of what this design try to explain to those who see it.
ž  Image has to has a good connect with the things that tried to be explained, which means, when we want to use an image for our design, we have to make sure that the image suit to the things that being explain in our design.
